A fundamental understanding of performance-based seismic design of building structures is extremely important. This presentation provides an overview of the developmental history of performance-based seismic design in several countries, as well as explains the current state and future of this field in rapidly developing countries. Additionally, the presentation points out some imperfections of current performance-based seismic design and proposes a possible direction for further improvement.
