This measurement is the most widely utilized and is employed to define the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) rankings of the "World's Tallest Buildings."

The number of floors above ground should include the ground floor level and be the number of main floors above ground, including any significant mezzanine floors and major mechanical plant floors. Note: CTBUH floor counts may differ from published accounts, as it is common in some regions of the world for certain floor levels not to be included (e.g., the level 4, 14, 24, etc. in Hong Kong).

Located at the edge of Brisbane’s Central Business District on an extremely limited site of just 1,478 square meters, Soleil used its restrictions to create a unique supplement to the skyline. Based on setback requirements and envelope controls, the form of the tower was essentially prescribed, and became an elongated hexagonal plan. To reach the desired density, the tower was designed with a height-to-width ratio of 12:1, making it significantly more slender than most typical buildings in the area.
To ensure the lateral stability of the thin tower, 750mm thick core walls are utilized in conjunction with oscillation acceleration damper tanks on the top two floors of the building. Additionally, the building has the deepest excavated foundations in the region, with seven levels of parking cut through the granite base of the city. The façade treatment on the tower responds directly to the environment, taking inspiration from the adjacent Brisbane River, and utilizes shading devices to create a reflective, rippling effect that is visible from across the city.
