RBC and RBC Dexia, the primary tenants of the building, required a design that supported their corporate objectives of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Working together with the developer, a vision of a superior workplace to dramatically improve occupant comfort, space planning flexibility, and higher environmental sustainability standards was developed within the market driven framework of capital and operating cost responsibility.
This project showcases the owner/developer Cadillac Fairview’s GREEN AT WORK™ initiative which is a detailed, measurable and long-term program which is national in scope; implemented at all properties and sets operational benchmarks to reduce energy consumption and waste, improve environmental protection, and encourages sustainable procurement. Strategies implemented at RBC Centre include: a green roof amenity, flexible raised access flooring, computer-controlled solar shading and daylight harvesting, sun-sensor and occupancy-sensor controlled lighting, rain water reuse for toilet flushing and stormwater management, and operable windows on the podium.
