Usually involved in the front end design, with a "typical" condition being that of a leadership role through either Schematic Design or Design Development, and then a monitoring role through the CD and CA phases.
Usually takes on the balance of the architectural effort not executed by the "Design Architect," typically responsible for the construction documents, conforming to local codes, etc. May often be referred to as "Executive," "Associate," or "Local" Architect, however, for consistency CTBUH uses the term "Architect of Record" exclusively.

The new addition to the historic Hotel Georgia in Vancouver is a mixed-use tower with a unique geometry. The form of the tower was sculpted to provide views of nearby public areas as well as the Seymour and Grouse Mountains to the north of the city. This was accomplished by canting the south and east façades outwards for the first 35 floors, and then receding the top 12 floors to project balconies outward. This form also provides passive shading for parts of the building and optimizes the southwest façade, which incorporates built-in photovoltaic panels, to power the building’s solar blinds.
At its base, the podium of the tower presents a familiar homage to the adjacent Hotel Georgia in a similar materials palette and scale. While connecting with its history, the new structure also includes many technological advancements, such as a geo-exchange heating and cooling system, rainwater harvesting, a green roof, and a high-performance curtain wall system. Lastly, the tower has operable windows in all units to encourage natural ventilation when possible.
